How practical is it for a tier 3 college student who is average at coding to get into MAANG/Big Tech companies ?
If you think that being from a tier 3 college closes opportunities of working at big tech companies like Google, you would be surprised to read this. I have worked at Google and Adobe, and many of my awesome colleagues were from tier-3 colleges. They were not just able to crack into big tech companies, but they were also doing good as senior engineers and managers within the organisation.
If you can crack the interviews at big tech, the company would not care about your college. Your college matters only till the resume shortlisting stage, after that it is all your skills, and there are ways to get your resume shortlisted for interview even from tier-3 colleges. If you can get super good at a programming language, Data Structures, Algorithms & System design, you stand a good chance to ace the interviews.
Additionally, the good thing about preparing for big tech companies is that the skills you learn for interview preparations are not wasted. If you get unlucky and are unable to get into big tech, you can still use your DS/Algo skills in interviews of other companies.
Additionally, take genuine interest in the computer science courses offered in your college. So stop overthinking and start preparing. With above mentioned skills, you stand a good chance of working at MAANG.
