Will AI Really Takeover Programmers ?
There is a post on reddit which goes like this:
I'm tired of seeing how people say that ai is gonna replace programmers which I completely disagree with at least for now. Idk if their aim is to create fear to promote their AI because I don't see ai getting anywhere close to replacing programmers at least for now.
So are those fears valid ? Or is it just some bubble where sales person are once again using fear as a weapon to sell their courses or products. This post will be all about the future of programmers in the world of AI.
There is a recent blog by Open AI on a concept called Super Alignment. If you do not already know, OpenAI is the inventor of the famous ChatGPT which has revolutionised the tech world with its magical AI technology that can answer any question you might have just like a human would do and even better. If you have not already used ChatGPT, you should try it out for yourself once. There is an alternative by Google as well which is called Bard, which I personally find better than ChatGPT. If you need, these are the links for both the AI tool: ChatGPT and Bard.
Now coming back to the public blog shared by OpenAI, I will underline the important details in red in the screenshot below.
Basically, OpenAI is talking about something about Super Intelligence. As per the blog, the Super Intelligent AI system will be a technology which is much smarter than human intelligence and if not aligned properly could lead to disempowerment of humanity as a whole. Not only this, the shocking part is that this technology can very well arrive within the next 10 years. If this had been claimed by some random social media influencer, I would have discarded it. But it is being claimed by OpenAI itself which is one of the leading organisations in the field of AI. Please note that this is not my personal opinion, I am just sharing what OpenAI has claimed publicly here.
Now, if OpenAI is to be believed, A Super Intelligent AI system will be much smarter than humans. This means that it can do all the jobs that humans are able to accomplish currently and even more, with programming being one of them. There is a caveat though. OpenAI is also working in Super Alignment, where they will be spending a significant amount of resources in steering the Super Intelligent system towards the benefit of humanity. So it will be super interesting to see how the future pans out. Even if future AI systems work towards betterment of humanity, it would not be hard to believe that they will be taking over the majority of the programming tasks in the coming decade.
So to answer your question, will AI really take over programmers ? If OpenAI is to be believed, the answer could very well be “Yes!” and that too within the next 10 years. Again, not my personal opinion.
